J. Wallace Smith M.D.
Dr. Smith completed his residency in plastic surgery at Northwestern University Medical school and, upon graduation, was honored with an invitation to join the faculty.
At Northwestern he served as associate professor of plastic surgery at the medical school for over 20 years, including three years as Chief of Plastic Surgery (Shriners' Hospital.) Dr. Smith is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery for which he has also served as an examiner of other surgeons. Dr. Smith is also a member of the American Society for Plastic Surgery and the Chicago Society of Plastic Surgery for which he served as president in 1996-1997. He is a dipolmate of the American College of Surgeons and is the former president of the American Cancer Society, North Shore Chapter. He is regularly included on Chicago Magazine's list of "best plastic surgeons" and by the Castle Connolly Guide as one of America's top cosmetic doctors. Dr. Smith was featured in Vogue Magazine and as part of "Chicago's Magnificent Makeover" on Fox News Chicago. In 2011, he was awarded the CMUS Talk of Town Award for "Excellence in Patient Satisfaction".
In addition to his outstanding achievements as a surgeon, Dr. Smith is a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War with 12 months of field combat. During this time, he was awarded with nine separate distinguished medals for his leadership and gallantry.
Dr. Smith is also a notable humanitarian who has been on 13 missions overseas to donate his time to repair cleft lip and palates for children in India, Vietnam and Haiti.
